Reading the Pointer
At unity the current and voltage are in step. A swing towards lag points to an inductive load such as a motor or transformer, and towards lead to a capacitive one. Watching the pointer while capacitors are switched in makes power-factor correction easy to demonstrate. Keep the meter where room temperature stays between 0 and 50 °C.
