Reflected and Transmitted Light on One Stand
A silicon wafer is opaque, so its circuit patterns are examined in reflected light sent through the objective onto the surface. A photomask is a glass plate carrying the pattern, so it can also be checked in transmitted light passing through the plate, where clear areas show bright and patterned areas dark.
Moving a Large Wafer Under the Objective
The large mechanical stage runs on ball-bearing guides and is driven by low-set coaxial X-Y controls, so the hand stays near the bench while a wide wafer is traversed. With the WF10x eyepieces the objectives give 50x, 100x, 200x and 500x, and with the WF15x eyepieces 75x, 150x, 300x and 750x.
