What Is the Parallel and Counter Flow Heat Exchanger Used For?
It is used to compare the two basic heat exchanger arrangements. In parallel flow both fluids enter at the same end and move the same way; in counter flow they enter at opposite ends. Inlet and outlet temperatures and flow rates give the heat transfer rate, the log mean temperature difference (LMTD) and the overall heat transfer coefficient for each arrangement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does counter flow usually transfer more heat?
The temperature difference between the fluids stays more even along the tube, so the same length and flow rates exchange more heat than in parallel flow.
How does it differ from the Concentric Tube Heat Exchanger?
Both use a 3 kW geyser. This unit has a 1.6 m heat exchange length and a 27.5 mm I.D. outer tube; the plain-tube version of the other is about 1.5 m long with an outer pipe of about 15 mm I.D.
Who manufactures this heat exchanger?
JLab makes it at its own works in Ambala, Haryana.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an engineering lab equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The heat exchanger is built in JLab’s own works, not resold, so colleges and dealers buy from the maker, including repeat orders and spares. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Switzerland in Western Europe, Sierra Leone in West Africa, Denmark in Northern Europe, Bangladesh in South Asia and Paraguay in South America. Tender details are on the JLab lab tenders page.
Other Heat Exchanger Apparatus
- Concentric Tube Heat Exchanger — offered as a plain tube (water to water) or finned tube (water to air) unit.
- Parallel and Counter Flow Heat Exchanger (pump-circulated hot water) — hot water circulated by a magnetic drive pump from a heated tank, with rotameters for flow.
