Phenol Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : EL-CL-12325
Jlab Export is a leading Phenol Manufacturer, and suppliers in India
Phenol (code EL-CL-12325) is hydroxybenzene, C6H5OH, the simplest phenol, studied in organic chemistry for the tests that set phenols apart from alcohols and carboxylic acids. It gives a violet colour with neutral ferric chloride and a white precipitate with bromine water. This bottle is a JLab-manufactured reagent from Ambala, India.

Tests That Identify Phenol
A neutral ferric chloride solution turns violet when phenol is added. Bromine water loses its colour and a white precipitate of 2,4,6-tribromophenol forms, a substitution that benzene does not undergo with bromine water. As a weak acid, phenol dissolves in sodium hydroxide as sodium phenoxide, yet it releases no carbon dioxide from sodium bicarbonate, which carboxylic acids do.
Related Reagents for Phenol Tests
- Ferric Chloride Anhydrous — the iron(III) salt for the violet colour test.
- Bromine Water — decolourised by phenol as white tribromophenol separates.
- Sodium Bicarbonate — tells phenol from carboxylic acids, which fizz with it.
Phenol and other organic reagents appear in Chemistry Lab.
