Choose the JL249 shoulder when each ligament around the joint, from the coracoclavicular pair to the three glenohumeral bands, should be named on one model with the scapula and clavicle. The Shoulder Joint Life Size and the functional Shoulder Joint Model on a stand are built to demonstrate anteversion, retroversion and rotation with flexible artificial ligaments, and the medical-PVC Shoulder Joint Model shows the clavicle, humerus and shoulder blade with the glenohumeral ligaments.
What Is the Shoulder Joint Model Used For?
At the shoulder, the rounded head of the humerus sits in the shallow glenoid cavity of the scapula, which is why it moves in more directions than any other joint and relies on ligaments and muscles to stay in place. The glenohumeral ligaments strengthen the front of the joint capsule; the conoid and trapezoid parts of the coracoclavicular ligament and the acromioclavicular ligament hold the clavicle to the scapula; the coracoacromial ligament forms an arch over the top of the joint; and the transverse humeral ligament bridges the groove on the humerus that carries the tendon of the long head of the biceps. On this model students can find each of these ligaments and relate it to the movements of the joint.
It is used for the upper limb in medical, nursing and physiotherapy anatomy, and as the ball-and-socket joint between the humerus and the pectoral girdle in the class 11 biology chapter on locomotion and movement.
