Sieves (code EL-GE-7454) is a set of six sieves, with screen mesh sizes from 4 mm down to 0.1 mm, that lets students separate and grade soil and rock samples to work out the make-up of soil strata in school geography and science labs and college soil and geology practicals. A bottom pan and a lid are included, so the stack can be shaken without losing the finest fraction. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

What Are the Sieves Used For?
A soil is described by how much of it is gravel, sand, silt or clay, and sieving is the simplest way to measure that. Students dry a sample, stack the sieves with the coarsest (4 mm) on top and the finest (0.1 mm) at the bottom above the pan, put on the lid and shake. Each sieve then holds one size fraction: the 2 mm screen marks the usual boundary between gravel and sand, the 0.5 mm and 0.25 mm screens split the sand into coarser and finer grades, and anything finer than 0.1 mm — very fine sand, silt and clay — collects in the pan. Weighing each fraction shows how samples from different layers or sites compare, which is how the set helps determine the make-up of soil strata.
The set is used in school geography and science lessons on soil types, in field-study projects, and in college soil science and geology practicals. Brush the screens clean after each use rather than poking them, and let them dry before stacking.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 sets.

Are a pan and lid included?
Yes. The set includes a bottom pan to catch the finest material and a lid for the top of the stack.
What is the set used for?
Separating and grading soil and rock samples by particle size, to determine the make-up of soil strata.
What are the sieves made of, and what diameter are they?
The listing does not give the material or diameter. Ask JLab when you enquire and the quotation will state them.
Why are there two 0.5 mm sieves?
The set list includes two sieves of that size. If you would prefer a different combination, mention it in your enquiry and JLab will advise.
What should an export enquiry include?
The number of sets, destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling instructions, and any tender reference.
Who manufactures the sieves?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab), at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of laboratory and field-study equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The sieve sets are made at JLab’s own works rather than bought in from traders, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy direct from the manufacturer; each set is visually inspected before it leaves, and repeat orders are supplied by the same works. JLab exports worldwide and can reach buyers in every region — Jordan in the Middle East, Hong Kong in East Asia, Uzbekistan in Central Asia, El Salvador in Central America and the Caribbean and Mexico in North America, for example. The JLab lab tenders page covers tender supply.
