Jlab Export is a leading Black Streak Plates Manufacturer, and suppliers in India
Black Streak Plates (code EL-GE-7463) are black, unglazed porcelain tiles measuring 25 x 50 mm, used for the streak test when students identify minerals in school, college and university geology and earth science labs. The dark surface is chosen for minerals that leave a white or pale streak, which would be hard to see on a white tile. They are made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with Other JLab Streak Plates?

|---|---|---|---|
| Black Streak Plates (EL-GE-7463) | Unglazed porcelain, black | Streak test — for white and pale streaks | 25 x 50 mm |
| White Streak Plates | Unglazed porcelain, white | Streak test — for dark and coloured streaks | 25 x 50 mm |
| Glass Streak Plates | Glass | Scratch test to separate hard and soft minerals | 6 mm thick; package of 10 |
Order black and white plates together so every streak colour can be read against a contrasting background. The glass plate answers a different question — whether a mineral is hard enough to scratch glass.
What Are Black Streak Plates Used For?
A mineral’s outer colour can change with impurities and weathering, but the colour of its fine powder — its streak — is much more consistent, which is why the streak test is one of the first checks in mineral identification. Students draw a corner of the specimen firmly across the rough, unglazed surface once and record the colour of the powder line, not of the specimen, then compare it with an identification table. A mineral harder than the porcelain scratches the plate instead of leaving powder, and that result is a clue too. The plates are used in rocks-and-minerals practicals in school science and geography and in introductory geology courses. Wipe off old streaks and dry the plate before the next test.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size and material are these plates?
Each one is a 25 x 50 mm tile of black, unglazed porcelain. The unglazed face is slightly rough, which is what grinds a little powder from the mineral.
When is a black plate used instead of a white one?
When the expected streak is white, cream or very light. A dark or strongly coloured streak shows up better on the white plate, so many labs keep both.
Why does a mineral sometimes leave no streak?
If it is harder than the porcelain, it scratches the tile rather than being ground into powder. Record that result, as it narrows down the possible minerals.
What is the minimum order and dispatch time?
Plates are sold individually with a minimum order of 10 units. Orders usually leave the works within 7–10 working days, each plate visually inspected; export transit time depends on destination and shipping method.
What should a quotation request include?
The number of black and white plates, destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, any packing or labelling needs and the tender reference if there is one.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of geology and science lab equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and based at Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. These streak plates are produced at JLab’s own works rather than sourced from a trader; schools, colleges, dealers and importers therefore buy from the maker, every plate is checked by eye before packing, and repeat orders come from the same source. The company exports worldwide and can ship to buyers in any region — for example Tajikistan in Central Asia, Guinea in West Africa, Mongolia in East Asia, Sudan in North Africa and Gabon in Central Africa. See the JLab lab tenders page for tender supply.
