Glass Streak Plates Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : EL-GE-7465
Jlab Export is a leading Glass Streak Plates Manufacturer, and suppliers in India
Glass Streak Plates (code EL-GE-7465) are 6 mm thick glass plates, packed 10 to a package, used for testing minerals in school and college earth science and geology lessons. Students try to scratch the glass with each specimen and so sort the minerals into hard and soft ones — a quick hardness check that needs no other equipment. They are made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with JLab Porcelain Streak Plates?
| Plate | Material | What it tests | Size and packing as listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glass Streak Plates (EL-GE-7465) | Glass | Hardness — does the mineral scratch glass? | 6 mm thick; package of 10 |
| Black Streak Plates | Unglazed porcelain, black | Streak colour — for white and pale streaks | 25 x 50 mm |
| White Streak Plates | Unglazed porcelain, white | Streak colour — for dark and coloured streaks | 25 x 50 mm |
Use the glass plate for the hardness step of an identification and the porcelain plates for streak colour; a full mineral practical normally uses both.
What Are Glass Streak Plates Used For?
Hardness is one of the main properties used to identify a mineral. In this test a student presses a sharp edge of the specimen against the glass and drags it across: if it leaves a scratch that does not rub away, the mineral is harder than the glass; if it slides over or leaves only powder, it is softer. Sorting a set of specimens this way is a common step in rocks-and-minerals practicals in school science and geography and in introductory geology courses, before finer testing with a hardness scale. Lay the plate flat on the bench rather than holding it in the hand, wipe away powder after each test so that it is not mistaken for a scratch, and set aside any plate with a chipped edge.
Frequently Asked Questions
How thick are the plates and how are they packed?
Each plate is 6 mm thick glass, and they are supplied in packages of 10.
How do you tell a scratch from a powder mark?
Rub the line with a finger or cloth. Powder from a soft mineral wipes off; a true scratch stays as a groove in the glass and shows that the mineral is harder than the plate.
How is this different from the black and white streak plates?
The porcelain plates show the colour of a mineral’s powder (its streak). This glass plate is used to judge hardness by whether the mineral can scratch it.
What should an export enquiry include?
Number of packages, destination country and port or city, preferred delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling requirements and any tender reference.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Ambala-based manufacturer of educational science and earth science equipment, incorporated in 2017, with its office on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The glass plates are made at JLab’s own works and are not resold from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers order straight from the manufacturer and get repeat supplies from the same source; each package is visually inspected before dispatch. JLab exports worldwide and supplies buyers across all regions — Mozambique in East Africa, Namibia in Southern Africa, Estonia in Northern Europe, Guinea in West Africa and Ecuador in South America are examples of the destinations it can serve. Tender details are on the JLab lab tenders page.
