What Is the Skeleton System Microslide Used For?

It gives a biology class a close look at the living side of the skeleton. Red bone marrow, found inside bones, is where blood cells are made, so the normal and leukaemic marrow views can be compared: in leukaemia, a cancer of the blood-forming tissue, abnormal white blood cells multiply and crowd the marrow. Membranous bone forms directly within a sheet of connective tissue, as the flat bones of the skull do. Ligaments are tough fibrous bands that join bone to bone at a joint, and tendons attach muscle to bone, which is how muscle contraction moves the skeleton. The fracture is shown on an X-ray rather than through a microscope, because bone absorbs X-rays more strongly than the soft tissue around it.

The set fits the class 9 chapter on tissues, where bone, ligaments, tendons and blood are introduced, and the class 11 chapter on locomotion and movement, and it adds real tissue images to college anatomy and histology classes. Students use the arrows and callouts to find each feature and then work through the questions in the text folder.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Number of sets — the minimum order is 10 units.
  • Viewers — the listing does not say a viewer is included, so add Microslide viewers if you need them.
  • Image list — ask us to confirm the complete contents if a lesson depends on a particular view.
