Soil Hydrometer

Product Code : EL-ELA-5417
Jlab Export is a leading Soil Hydrometer Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Soil Hydrometer (code EL-ELA-5417) is a clear glass hydrometer for grain-size analysis of soils in which more than 10% of the material passes a 75 micron sieve, used in civil engineering, geology and soil science labs. Its engraved density scale reads from 0.995 to 1.030 g/cc at 27°C in divisions of 0.0005. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

What Is a Soil Hydrometer Used For?

Sieving cannot separate silt and clay, so the fine fraction of a soil is sized by sedimentation. The soil is dispersed in water in a tall jar, and the hydrometer is floated in the suspension at timed intervals; as particles settle, the density of the suspension falls, and Stokes’ law links the settling rate to particle size. Combined with the sieve results for the coarse fraction, the readings give the full particle-size distribution used in civil lab equipment courses, soil mechanics practicals and site investigation. Because the scale is set at 27°C, note the suspension temperature with every reading; lower the hydrometer gently, read at the top of the meniscus if the suspension is opaque, and rinse and dry it after use.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units; add spares, since glass hydrometers can break.
  • Companion items — sieves, a hydrometer jar or measuring cylinder and a thermometer can go on the same enquiry.
  • Packing — mention any special packing or labelling needs for export.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the scale range of this soil hydrometer?
0.995 to 1.030 g/cc at 27°C, with a smallest division of 0.0005 g/cc engraved on the upper end of the glass stem.

Which soils is it used for?
Soils in which more than 10% of the material passes a 75 micron sieve — that is, soils with enough silt and clay for sedimentation analysis.

Is a hydrometer jar included?
No. This listing covers the hydrometer only; the jar, sieves and measuring cylinders are separate items linked below.

What is the minimum order and dispatch time?
The minimum order is 10 units, supplied individually. Dispatch is usually within 7–10 working days after a visual inspection; for export, send the destination port or city and delivery terms such as FOB or CIF.

Who manufactures it?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a maker of laboratory glassware and civil and soil-testing apparatus in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. This hydrometer comes from JLab’s own works rather than a trading house, so colleges, testing labs, dealers and importers buy it factory-direct and repeat orders are handled by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Sweden in Northern Europe, Bangladesh in South Asia, Indonesia in Southeast Asia, Mongolia in East Asia and Cameroon in Central Africa. Tender information is on the JLab lab tenders page.
