What a Total Station Measures
A total station joins an electronic theodolite to an electronic distance meter (EDM). From one set-up it measures the horizontal angle, the vertical angle and the distance to each target, which together fix the position of the target relative to the station. The two versions differ in angle accuracy, 3 seconds or 5 seconds.
