Triple Beam Balance (code EL-MI-2137) is a single-pan, low-form mechanical balance with three notched beams and centre-indicating sliding masses that weigh up to 610 g in steps as fine as 0.1 g, used for everyday weighing in school, college and general laboratories. A 150 mm stainless steel pan, magnetic damping and a spring-loaded zero adjust compensator are fitted, and supplementary masses extend the range to 2610 g. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with Other JLab Mechanical Balances?
| Model | Range | Pan | Other listed details |
|---|---|---|---|
| This balance (EL-MI-2137) | 610 g on three beams; 2610 g with supplementary masses | Stainless steel, 150 mm | Low form; 0.1 g smallest beam step; magnetic damping; listed accessories include under-weighing rod and tare beam |
| Triple Beam Balance (solids and powders listing) | 610 g; 2610 g with supplementary masses | Not stated in its listing | Three notched, tiered beams; readability 0.1 g; zero adjust compensator and magnetic damping |
| Triple Beam Balance (0-2610gm) | 610 g; 2610 g with added weights | Not stated in its listing | Single pan, low form, regular quality |
| Balance Single Pan | 311 g x 10 mg on four beams; additional masses not required | Stainless steel, 90 mm, with two pouring spouts and handle | Non-removable slider on each beam; zero adjustment |
| Double Beam Balance | 210 g on two beams; 2000 g with supplementary masses | Two stainless steel pans | Zero adjust compensator; magnetic damping |
This model is the one to choose when you want the full specification in one place — beam ranges, pan size and the accessory list — for a teaching lab that weighs up to 610 g on the beams. The four-beam single-pan balance reads to 10 mg without extra masses but only to 311 g, and the double beam balance gives a two-pan layout for comparison weighing.
What Is the Triple Beam Balance Used For?
A triple beam balance measures mass by moving riders along three beams until the pointer lines up with the centre mark; the mass is the sum of the three rider readings. It is standard mechanics and physics lab equipment for schools, used from middle school onwards to measure the mass of solids, powders and liquids in containers, to find the density of regular and irregular objects, and in chemistry practicals that need reagents weighed to 0.1 g. With the support rod for under-weighing, a solid can be suspended below the balance and weighed in air and in water to apply Archimedes’ principle.
Place the balance on a level bench, slide all riders to zero and set the pointer to the centre with the zero adjust compensator. Put the object on the pan, move the 100 g rider to the last notch that keeps the pointer above centre, repeat with the 10 g rider, then slide the 0.1 g rider until the beam balances; magnetic damping stops the swing quickly. Use the tare beam to cancel the mass of a beaker, avoid dropping loads onto the pan, and add supplementary masses only for loads above 610 g.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Accessories — supplementary masses for the 2610 g range, the under-weighing support rod and the tare beam, as needed.
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 balances; a common plan is one per student group.
- Related models — ask in the same enquiry if you are comparing this balance with the single-pan or double beam models above.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the capacity of this triple beam balance?
The three beams weigh up to 610 g together. With the supplementary masses fitted, the range extends to 2610 g.
How finely does it read?
The front beam runs from 0 to 10 g in 0.1 g steps, so readings are made to 0.1 g. The other beams cover 0–500 g in 100 g steps and 0–100 g in 10 g steps.
What size is the pan?
It has a stainless steel pan of 150 mm diameter, large enough for beakers, dishes and most solid specimens used in teaching labs.
Are the supplementary masses and support rod supplied?
They are listed as accessories for this balance, together with an un-calibrated tare beam. Tell JLab which of them you need and they will be confirmed in the quotation.
What is the under-weighing facility for?
The support rod lets you hang a sample below the balance, for example to weigh a solid while it is immersed in water when measuring density or relative density.
What should an export quotation request include?
The quantity, the accessories you want, the destination country and port or city, delivery terms (FOB, CIF or similar), packing and labelling needs and any tender reference.
Who makes this balance?
JLab — Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd — makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and handles quotations directly.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of laboratory instruments for education and research, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The triple beam balance is produced at JLab’s own works instead of being sourced from a trader, which means schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy direct from the factory, each balance is inspected visually before dispatch, and repeat supplies and spare parts are arranged by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Guinea in West Africa, Ecuador in South America, Lesotho in Southern Africa, Australia in Oceania and Myanmar in Southeast Asia. Tender buyers can see the JLab lab tenders page.
