Visualizing Osmosis and Diffusion

Product Code : EL-CE-6761
Jlab Export is a leading Visualizing Osmosis and Diffusion Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Visualizing Osmosis and Diffusion (code EL-CE-6761) is a class activity that demonstrates selective permeability with coloured solutions. Students start with a model cell and a mixture of special dye solutions, then watch the membrane let one dye pass while the other stays inside — a colour change that shows how a cell takes in nutrients and gets rid of wastes. It is sized for a class of 40 students. JLab (Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, Ambala, India) supplies it to schools, colleges and dealers.

What Is the Osmosis and Diffusion Activity Used For?

Cell membranes are selectively permeable: some particles cross them and others do not. In this activity the model cell plays the part of a real cell, and because the two dyes are different colours, students can see which one has crossed the membrane and which has been held back. That makes two definitions concrete — diffusion, the net movement of particles from a region of higher concentration to one of lower concentration, and osmosis, the diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane. The class then discusses how passive transport of water keeps the inside and outside of a cell in balance without the cell spending energy. It fits the class 9 chapter on the fundamental unit of life, where the plasma membrane, diffusion and osmosis are introduced, and the class 11 chapter on transport in plants.

Work in groups, record the colours at the start and at intervals, and ask students to explain the result in terms of particle size and the membrane. Dyes can stain skin and clothing, so gloves and lab coats or aprons are sensible; dispose of the solutions as your school’s laboratory rules require.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do students observe in Visualizing Osmosis and Diffusion?
A colour change: the model cell’s membrane lets one dye pass out while the other remains inside, which demonstrates selective permeability.

How many students is it for?
The stated class size is 40 students.

Do the dye solutions have a shelf life?
Shelf life depends on the chemical, its grade and storage conditions; ask us for the expiry date of the batch you are quoted.

Who supplies this osmosis and diffusion activity?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab), Ambala, Haryana, India, which quotes for it directly with its biology range.

Supplier

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a lab equipment company incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. Next to the equipment it produces itself, JLab resells selected class activities from other suppliers, such as this osmosis and diffusion kit, so that schools and dealers can order a complete biology practical programme from one source; each kit is visually inspected before dispatch. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Liberia in West Africa, El Salvador in Central America and the Caribbean, Turkey in the Middle East, Libya in North Africa and the USA in North America.
