Ammeter

Product Code : EL-SLE-4646
Jlab Export is a leading Ammeter Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Ammeter (code EL-SLE-4646) is a desk-stand meter for measuring electric current in amperes, offered in single ranges of 0–1 A, 0–2.5 A and 0–5 A and in dual ranges of 0–1/3 A and 0–2.5/5 A. Its desk stand is moulded from ABS plastic in black and white, and it is used in school and college electricity practicals such as Ohm’s law. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

Choose this ammeter for the ampere-level currents of school circuits, with a dual-range model if one meter must cover both small and larger currents. Pick the digital ammeter for a numerical readout, the milliammeter for currents below one ampere such as diode and LED circuits, and the galvanometer for detecting a null point rather than measuring a value.

What Is an Ammeter Used For?

An ammeter measures the current flowing through a circuit, so it is always connected in series with the component being studied. It has a very low resistance so that it barely changes the current it is measuring — which is also why it must never be connected straight across a cell or power supply, where it would short-circuit the supply and can be damaged. In the class 10 Ohm’s law activity students read the current through a resistor at several voltages and plot a V–I graph; the same set-up is used for resistors in series and in parallel, and for the class 12 practicals on the resistance of a wire.

On a dual-range meter, connect to the higher range first and change to the lower range only if the reading is small, so that the reading falls in the upper part of the scale where it is most precise. In a D.C. circuit connect the positive terminal towards the positive side of the supply. On a scale meter, work out the least count — the range divided by the number of scale divisions — before taking readings, and switch the circuit off between readings so the resistor does not heat up.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Range — single range 0–1, 0–2.5 or 0–5 A, or dual range 0–1/3 or 0–2.5/5 A, with the quantity of each.
  • Supply type — state whether the meters are for D.C. or A.C. circuits.
  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 meters.
  • Circuit items — voltmeters, rheostats, plug keys and a power supply can go in the same enquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which ranges are available?
Single-range ammeters read 0–1 A, 0–2.5 A or 0–5 A. Dual-range ammeters read 0–1/3 A or 0–2.5/5 A.

Is it for A.C. or D.C.?
The listing does not say. State the type of circuit in your enquiry and JLab will confirm the meter supplied.

How is an ammeter connected?
In series, so the whole current passes through it. Never connect it directly across a battery or power supply.

What is the stand made of?
ABS plastic, in black and white, described in the listing as unbreakable, which suits student benches.

When should I choose a dual-range ammeter?
When the same meter has to read both small and larger currents — for example a few tenths of an ampere in one experiment and several amperes in another — or when you want students to practise choosing a range.

Who manufactures this ammeter?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a maker of physics lab instruments and electrical meters for teaching in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The ammeters are assembled at JLab’s own works rather than bought in from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy them factory-direct; every meter is checked visually before dispatch, and repeat orders come straight from the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Sri Lanka in South Asia, Ethiopia in East Africa, Taiwan in East Asia, Brazil in South America and Botswana in Southern Africa.
