How Does It Compare with the Other JLab Anaerobic Culture Jar?
| Model | Jar | Size | Lid and valves | Listed accessories |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| This jar (EL-ELA-5423) | Transparent polycarbonate | 3.5 litre capacity | Valved aluminium die-cast lid with pressure, vacuum and safety valves and a compound gauge, plus a plain lid for gas packs | Stainless steel Petri plate carrier (10 dishes) and test tube carrier |
| Anaerobic Culture Jar (McIntosh and Fildes pattern) | Glass | Approx. 23 cm high x 13 cm diameter | Metal cover with two needle valves for evacuating and filling, and a sachet holder for a cold catalyst (catalyst not supplied) | Petri dish holder and pressure gauge; listed for use with a gas cylinder or gas packs |
Choose this jar for a gauge-equipped valved lid and a plain gas-pack lid in one set, with carriers for both plates and tubes; choose the glass McIntosh and Fildes jar for the traditional needle-valve design with a cold-catalyst sachet holder.
What Is the Anaerobic Culture Jar Used For?
Anaerobic bacteria, such as many Clostridium species, grow only where oxygen is absent or very low, so their cultures are incubated in a sealed container from which the oxygen has been removed. The listing names two ways of doing this. With the valved lid, the air inside is drawn out by a vacuum pump and CO2 is let in from a gas cylinder, while the compound gauge shows pressure and vacuum in the jar. With the plain lid, a ready-made gas pack generates the anaerobic conditions. The clear body lets staff see the plates and tubes without opening the jar.
It is microbiology lab equipment for college and university practicals on bacterial culture and for research laboratories that work with anaerobes. An anaerobic indicator tablet, available separately, is commonly placed inside to show whether anaerobic conditions have been reached.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Method — vacuum pump with CO2 cylinder, or gas packs, so the right consumables are quoted.
- Consumables and spares — indicator tablets, gas packs, silicone rings or extra Petri plate carriers.
- Other equipment — a vacuum pump, Petri dishes or an incubator can be quoted on the same enquiry as separate items.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the capacity of this anaerobic culture jar?
3.5 litres, in a transparent polycarbonate body sealed by a clamped lid and O-ring.
Which lids come with the jar?
Two: the valved, gauge-fitted lid for the vacuum pump and CO2 method, and a plain aluminium lid for use with ready-made gas packs.
Are a vacuum pump and gas cylinder supplied?
No. The supplied set is the jar with its two lids, a Petri plate carrier and a test tube carrier. A vacuum pump and gas cylinder are separate equipment; JLab lists a rotary vane vacuum pump that can be quoted on the same enquiry.
How many Petri dishes does the carrier hold?
Ten; spare stainless steel carriers can be ordered separately.
What should an export quotation request include?
The number of jars and any consumables or spares, the destination country and port or city, preferred delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling requirements, and a tender reference if the order is for a tender.
Who manufactures this anaerobic culture jar?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of microbiology and educational laboratory equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The jar is built at JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so colleges, research labs, dealers and importers buy it factory-direct and order spares from the same source. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — Senegal in West Africa, Congo in Central Africa, Algeria in North Africa, Moldova in Eastern Europe and Nepal in South Asia, for example. Tender information is on the JLab lab tenders page.
Related Microbiology Equipment
- Vacuum Pump — an electrically operated rotary vane pump, made in single- or double-stage versions; a separate item.
- Petri Dish — borosilicate glass Petri dishes for microbial cultures on agar, in packs of 10.
- Bacteriological Incubator — a thermostat-controlled incubator with a double-walled, windowed door.
