What Is the Oil Tank Safety Trainer Used For?

Heating oil stored in a building has to be kept from leaking into the ground and from overflowing during a delivery, and this trainer lets students work with each device that does that job. In a double-walled tank the gap between the inner and outer wall is watched by leak detectors: a vacuum system holds a vacuum in the gap and signals when it is lost, while a liquid system signals a change in the detection liquid, so a defect in either wall is found before oil escapes. The overfill protection device stops filling at the maximum level, the vent lets air out as the tank fills and back in as oil is drawn off, and the pneumatic level gauge reads the contents from the pressure of the oil column, with the dip stick as a manual check.
