How Do They Compare with JLab Rubber Corks?
| Listing | Sizes | Pack | Listed use |
|---|---|---|---|
| These bungs (EL-SLE-5562) | Millimetre sizes, 13–31 mm across the range | Packs of 10 or 20 | One-hole, two-hole and solid in one listing |
| Rubber Corks (without Holes) | No. 2, 7 and 13 | Packs of 100 | Closing test tubes, 24 mm boiling tubes and 250 ml flasks |
| Rubber Corks (with One Hole) | No. 2, 7 and 13 | Packs of 100 | Passing one glass tube or thermometer |
| Rubber Corks (with Two Holes) | No. 2, 7 and 13 | Packs of 100 | A thistle funnel and a delivery tube through one mouth |
Choose these bungs when you order by millimetre size or want smaller packs of 10 or 20 across several sizes. The rubber cork listings use numbered sizes and packs of 100, which suits schools that restock one size in bulk.
What Are Rubber Bungs Used For?
A rubber bung grips the glass and makes a gas-tight seal. A one-hole bung carries a thermometer into a boiling tube, or a delivery tube from a boiling tube to a test tube of lime water to show that a reaction gives off carbon dioxide. A two-hole bung takes a thistle funnel and a delivery tube for preparing gases such as carbon dioxide, hydrogen or oxygen in class 9 to class 12 chemistry. Solid bungs close test tubes and flasks so that samples can be shaken or stored for a short time, and they are also used in physics for sealed-air experiments.
To fit a glass tube, wet the tube and the hole with water or a little glycerol, wrap the glass in a cloth, hold it close to the bung and twist it in gently — never push. Rubber softens and perishes with heat, oils, organic solvents and strong oxidising acids, so keep bungs away from flames and replace any that have cracked or gone sticky.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Type and size — one hole, two hole or solid, with the size in millimetres from the table.
- Number of packs — packs of 10 or 20 according to the table; the minimum order is 10 units.
- Neck and tube sizes — send the inside diameter of the necks and the outside diameter of the glass tubing so JLab can confirm the fit and the hole size.
- Cork borers and delivery tubes — add them to the same enquiry if you bore your own stoppers or are equipping a gas-preparation bench.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which sizes and pack quantities are available?
One-hole bungs in 16, 28 and 31 mm come in packs of 20 and the 22 mm size in packs of 10; two-hole bungs in 16, 18.5, 28 and 31 mm come in packs of 10; and solid bungs come as an assorted pack of 20 covering 13–20.5 mm.
What does the millimetre size refer to?
The listing gives one size per bung but does not say whether it is the top or bottom diameter. Send the inside diameter of the tube or flask neck and ask JLab to confirm the matching size.
What hole size do the bored bungs have?
It is not stated. Tell JLab the outside diameter of the glass tubing, thermometer or thistle funnel stem you will use.
When should I choose a one-hole or a two-hole bung?
Use a one-hole bung when only one tube or thermometer passes through, and a two-hole bung when gas must enter and leave, for example with a thistle funnel and a delivery tube.
How do these differ from JLab’s rubber corks?
These bungs are listed by millimetre size in packs of 10 or 20, with one-hole, two-hole and solid types in one listing. The rubber cork listings use numbered sizes and packs of 100.
What should an export quotation request include?
The types, sizes and number of packs, the destination country and port or city, your preferred delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, any labelling or packing needs, and the tender reference if there is one.
Who manufactures these rubber bungs?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes them at its works in Ambala, Haryana, and quotes for them directly.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of laboratory glassware, rubberware and school science apparatus in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. These rubber bungs come from JLab’s own works rather than from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers order them direct from the factory, each pack is inspected by eye before dispatch, and repeat orders in the same sizes are handled by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example the USA in North America, Iceland in Northern Europe, Liberia in West Africa, Nepal in South Asia and New Zealand in Oceania. Tender information is on the JLab lab tenders page.
