What Is the Chloroplast Model Used For?
It is used to teach the structure of the chloroplast, often called the food factory of the plant, because this is where photosynthesis takes place. Under a light microscope a chloroplast appears only as a small green body; its inner membranes were worked out with the electron microscope, and the model follows that interpretation, showing the structure in both longitudinal and cross section.
