What Is the Concave and Convex Slopes Model Used For?

Slope shape decides what you can see from a hilltop and how a contour map looks. On a convex slope the ground steepens towards the foot, so a person at the top cannot see the bottom; on a concave slope the steep part is near the top and the land flattens out below, so the whole slope stays in view. On a topographic map, convex slopes have contours crowded together at the lower levels, while concave slopes have them crowded near the top. The model supports class 11 practical geography map work and introductory geomorphology at college.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a concave and a convex slope?
A convex slope bulges outward, like the outside of a sphere, and gets steeper as you go down. A concave slope curves inward, like the inside of a bowl, and becomes gentler towards its foot.

How do the two slopes appear on a contour map?
Contour spacing gives them away. Convex slopes show widely spaced contours at higher levels and closely spaced ones near the bottom; concave slopes show the reverse.

What size is the model and what is it made of?
The listing does not state the size or material. Ask for them, together with any labelling details, when you request a quotation.

OEM Manufacturer

The model is produced by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, which trades as JLab — a maker of geography lab models and school science equipment, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. Because JLab builds the model itself instead of reselling it, schools, colleges, dealers and importers deal directly with the manufacturer for quotations, repeat orders and replacements. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Belgium in Western Europe, Lesotho in Southern Africa, Estonia in Northern Europe, El Salvador in Central America and the Caribbean and Bolivia in South America.
