Dissolved Oxygen Meter Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India

Dissolved Oxygen Meter

Product Code : EL-DOM-2202
Jlab Export is a leading Dissolved Oxygen Meter Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Field checks on ponds, streams and fish tanks need a meter that travels well. This hand-held one weighs about 250 g and runs on a 9 V battery. It reads dissolved oxygen from 0 to 20 ppm in 0.1 ppm steps on a 3½ digit LCD. The ABS meter and its gold/silver amperometric probe pack into a carrying case for field work.

Field Exercises for Environmental Science Students

On a pond or stream survey, students collect water at different points and depths with a Water Sampler. They read the DO on the bank straight away, since a standing sample soon gains or loses oxygen. A pond with plenty of algae can be tested early in the morning and again in the afternoon. Daylight photosynthesis usually raises the afternoon value.

Back in the lab, a class can compare the meter with the colour tablets of a Dissolved Oxygen Test Kit on the same samples. Teachers also use it to show how DO falls below a sewage outfall or in stagnant water.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of probe does this meter use?
It has a gold/silver amperometric probe. Oxygen passing through the probe membrane is reduced at the gold electrode, and the current this produces rises with the oxygen in the water. The meter shows that current as DO in ppm.

How do I use the manual temperature compensation?
Read the water temperature with a thermometer and set that value on the meter before taking the DO reading. Compensation covers 0 to 50 °C. Reset it whenever you move to water at a different temperature, such as a shaded pool after a sunny one.

How do I calibrate it at the site?
Calibration is manual. Let the probe settle in water-saturated air, for example just above water in a closed container. Then set the display to the saturation value from a solubility table for that temperature and the local air pressure. Air pressure falls with altitude, so a hill site needs a lower setting than one at sea level.

Can it be used in brackish or sea water?
Yes, with a correction. Salt water holds less oxygen than fresh water at the same temperature, but the probe reading does not allow for this by itself. For brackish or sea water, correct each reading with a solubility table that includes salinity.

How should the probe be kept between surveys?
Rinse it with clean water after use and keep the membrane moist and protected in the carrying case. Do not let mud or algae dry on it. A damaged or fouled membrane gives slow, low readings and needs replacing.
