DSB and SSB AM Transmitter Trainer (code EL-CT-1510) is a communication trainer for studying carrier frequency generation, the generation and transmission of double sideband (DSB) and single sideband (SSB) amplitude modulated signals, and the tuned circuits of a transmitter. Its gain-adjustable output amplifier sends the signal to an antenna or a cable. JLab, the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, builds the trainer in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with Other JLab AM Trainers?
| Trainer | Role | Frequencies | Built-in DC supply |
|---|---|---|---|
| This transmitter trainer (EL-CT-1510) | Transmitter | RF carrier 100 kHz to 1 MHz; DSB output 1 MHz, SSB output 1.445 MHz | ±12 V DC and +5 V DC |
| DSB and SSB AM Receiver Trainer | Receiver, with diode and product detectors and AGC | Frequency range 980 kHz to 1650 kHz; intermediate frequency 455 kHz | ±12 V DC and +5 V DC |
| DSB and SSB-SC Amplitude Modulation and Demodulation Trainer | AM, DSB-SC and SSB-SC modulation and demodulation on a single printed circuit board | RF carrier 100 kHz to 1 MHz; local oscillator 400 kHz to 500 kHz | ±15 V DC and +5 V DC at 100 mA |
Choose the transmitter trainer when the practical is about producing and sending DSB and SSB signals. The receiver trainer deals with reception — detection, AGC and the sensitivity, selectivity and fidelity of a receiver — while the DSB and SSB-SC trainer generates and demodulates suppressed-carrier signals on one board.
What Is the AM Transmitter Trainer Used For?
It supports the amplitude modulation practicals in the analog communication lab of electronics and communication engineering degree and diploma courses. A double balanced modulator multiplies the audio signal by the carrier, which gives the upper and lower sidebands with the carrier suppressed; keeping only one of those sidebands gives SSB, which occupies half the bandwidth of DSB. On the trainer, students modulate the carrier, compare the DSB and SSB waveforms and study how the transmitter’s tuned circuits behave, viewing each signal on an oscilloscope.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of transmitter trainers needed for the lab.
- Reception experiments — the DSB and SSB AM Receiver Trainer is a separate item that can be quoted on the same enquiry if the course also covers AM reception.
- Mains supply — the trainer runs on 230 V AC, 50 Hz; confirm that this matches the supply where it will be installed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What audio signals can modulate the carrier?
The built-in generator gives a sine wave from 300 Hz to 3.4 kHz at 0 to 5 Vpp, the band normally used for telephone-quality speech. An external signal from a microphone or tape recorder can also be used through the input audio amplifier, which has its own volume control.
What are the switched faults and test points for?
The trainer has 8 switched faults and 27 test points. An instructor can switch in a fault for students to trace, and the test points give them places to measure the signal on the circuit.
Why study SSB as well as DSB?
SSB carries the same information in a single sideband, so it needs half the bandwidth and less transmitter power than DSB. The trade-off is that the receiver has to reinsert the carrier, usually with a product detector, before the audio can be recovered.
What other apparatus does the trainer need?
A 20 MHz cathode ray oscilloscope, which is a separate item, for observing the waveforms. JLab’s Dual Trace Oscilloscope, linked below, can be quoted with the trainer.
What details does an export quotation need?
Tell us how many trainers you need, the destination country and the port or city of delivery, the delivery terms (for example FOB or CIF), any packing or labelling requirement and the tender reference, if there is one.
Who makes the DSB and SSB AM Transmitter Trainer?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, manufactures it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer in India of communication and electronics trainers and other teaching laboratory equipment, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The transmitter trainer is produced in JLab’s own works and not bought in from a trader, which lets universities, polytechnics, dealers and importers order factory-direct and return to the maker for repeat orders and spares. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Tanzania in East Africa, Uzbekistan in Central Asia, Norway in Northern Europe, Mexico in North America and Brunei in Southeast Asia. For tender enquiries, see the JLab lab tenders page.
