Transmission Line Trainer

Product Code : EL-CT-1504
Jlab Export is a leading Transmission Line Trainer Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Transmission Line Trainer (code EL-CT-1504) is a communication lab trainer for making line measurements on a real coaxial transmission line rather than on a simulated network. The line is 100 metres of coaxial cable, made up of four 25 metre lengths. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

What Is the Transmission Line Trainer Used For?

At high frequencies a cable no longer behaves as a simple pair of wires. Its distributed inductance and capacitance give it a characteristic impedance, signals take a measurable time to travel along it and lose amplitude on the way, and any mismatch at the far end sends part of the signal back. A short bench lead hides these effects, but a long line driven from hundreds of kilohertz up to megahertz frequencies makes attenuation, phase shift along the line and standing-wave patterns large enough to measure on an oscilloscope. The trainer brings the transmission line chapter of a communication engineering course onto the bench.

Its operating instructions give the object, theory, design procedure, report suggestions and book references for each study.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • The number of trainers for your communication lab.
  • Local mains — the unit is designed for 230 V ±10%, 50 Hz AC; confirm your supply matches.
  • Companion equipment — the fibre optic and LAN trainers linked below are separate items that can be quoted on the same enquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What signal source does the trainer have?
A built-in sine/square wave generator covering 40 kHz to 4 MHz in two bands, 40 kHz to 400 kHz and 400 kHz to 4 MHz. SPDT switches select the waveform and the band, two potentiometers set the frequency and amplitude, and a BNC connector takes the input.

How are stationary waves studied?
When the line is not terminated in its characteristic impedance, the reflected wave adds to the forward wave and forms a stationary pattern of voltage maxima and minima. The two impedance-matching potentiometers let students move between matched and mismatched conditions and see the pattern grow or shrink.

How does fault localization work on a line?
A pulse sent down the line is partly reflected wherever the impedance changes, for example at a break or a short. Measuring the time between the sent pulse and its echo, and knowing the signal speed in the cable, gives the distance to the fault — the principle of time-domain reflectometry. Fault localization and the line under pulsed condition are both among the trainer’s studies.

What else is needed to run the experiments?
A 20 MHz cathode ray oscilloscope, sold as a separate item; patch cords are provided with the trainer. JLab’s Dual Trace Oscilloscope, linked below, can be quoted with it.

What information should an export enquiry include?
The number of trainers, the destination country and port or city, the delivery terms required (for example FOB or CIF), packing or labelling requirements, and the tender reference if the purchase is through a tender.

Who manufactures this transmission line trainer?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) manufactures it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer in India of communication trainers and electronics laboratory equipment, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The transmission line trainer is produced in JLab’s own works, not traded, so colleges, dealers and importers buy direct from the maker and return to it for repeat orders and spares. The company holds MSME Udyam registration UDYAM-HR-01-0003849 as a manufacturing enterprise and Importer-Exporter Code 3317504552. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Latvia in Northern Europe, Brazil in South America, Trinidad and Tobago in Central America and the Caribbean, Burkina Faso in West Africa and Botswana in Southern Africa. Tender enquiries can start from the JLab lab tenders page.

Related Communication Trainers

  • Advanced Fiber Optics Trainer — analog and digital fibre optic links with propagation loss, bending loss and numerical aperture experiments.
  • LAN Trainer — Ethernet, parallel and serial port cabling set-ups with on-board hubs and a cable fabrication kit.
  • Dual Trace Oscilloscope — 20 MHz, two channels, cathode ray tube.
