Flat End or Spoon End?

Use the spoon end to scoop powder or crystals from a reagent bottle and carry them to the balance pan or a test tube without spilling. The flat end is better for levelling a heap on weighing paper, breaking up caked solid and scraping residue from a dish. Keep one spatula per reagent, or wipe it dry between them, so traces of one chemical do not reach the next bottle.

Other Spatulas and Weighing Aids

  • Spatula — spoon-ended stainless steel spatula of the same 150 mm length.
  • Weighing Bottle — borosilicate bottle for weighing out the solid you transfer.
  • Electronic Balance — bench balance for weighing samples moved with the spatula.

Spatulas, balances and weighing ware are in Chemistry Lab, part of Chemistry Lab Equipment.
