How Does It Compare with the JLab Epidiascope?

Choose the episcope when you only need to show opaque pages and drawings and want the smaller unit. Choose the epidiascope if you also need to project transparencies or slides, or a larger opaque area in one view.

What Is the Episcope Used For?

An episcope projects by reflected light, so nothing has to be copied onto film first: a textbook figure, a hand-drawn diagram or a printed chart is placed at the aperture and the whole class sees it enlarged. In school biology it lets a teacher show the same cell, plant or organ diagram to every student during CBSE and ICSE class 6–12 lessons, and in college teaching rooms it serves the same purpose for printed plates. Designers and art workers use it to enlarge sketches and trace outlines onto paper, board or a wall.

Reflected-light projection is dimmer than projecting a transparency, so use the episcope in a darkened room and keep the screen close enough for a sharp, bright image. Keep the blower vents clear while it runs and let the unit cool before packing it away.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an episcope and an epidiascope?
An episcope projects opaque material only, while an epidiascope also projects transparencies. This model is opaque-only with a 150 x 150 mm aperture; the JLab epidiascope adds slide attachments and a larger opaque aperture.

How large an area can it project at one time?
The opaque aperture is 150 x 150 mm, so that is the area shown in one view. A larger page has to be moved across the aperture to show one part at a time.

What lamp does it use?
The listing gives a 500/1000 watts lamp with blower cooling. Tell JLab which wattage you want when you ask for a quotation.

Who manufactures this episcope?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, and quotes for it directly.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a maker of educational lab and classroom equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and located on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The episcope is assembled at JLab’s own works, not sourced from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers order it factory-direct, every unit is visually inspected before it ships, and repeat orders are handled by the manufacturer itself. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — Morocco in North Africa, Mozambique in East Africa, Namibia in Southern Africa, Estonia in Northern Europe and Bolivia in South America are examples. Institutions buying through a tender can find details on the JLab lab tenders page.

Other Classroom Projectors

  • Epidiascopes — projects transparencies and slides as well as opaque material.
  • Over Head Projector JLab — an overhead projector with an anti-glare Fresnel lens and twin halogen lamps.
  • LCD Projector — projects digital content through HDMI and has a built-in speaker.
