What Is the Housefly Life Cycle Model Used For?
The housefly undergoes complete metamorphosis. The female lays her eggs in batches in moist, decaying matter such as manure, garbage and compost. Legless, pale larvae — maggots — hatch and feed on the rotting material, moulting through three instars. The last larva crawls to a drier spot and pupates inside a hardened, dark-brown, barrel-shaped case called the puparium, from which the adult fly emerges. Warm conditions speed up every stage, which is why fly numbers rise in summer.
The model helps teachers show where flies breed and how they spread disease: germs stick to the fly’s hairy legs and body and pass to food when it walks, vomits or leaves droppings on it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the stages of the housefly life cycle?
Egg, larva (maggot), pupa inside a puparium, and adult. The eggs and maggots develop in decaying organic matter.
How does a housefly spread disease?
It acts as a mechanical carrier, picking up germs from garbage and excreta on its legs, body and mouthparts and leaving them on food, which helps spread diarrhoeal diseases such as typhoid, cholera and dysentery.
How can houseflies be controlled?
By removing their breeding places: disposing of garbage and manure properly, keeping food covered, maintaining good sanitation and fitting fly screens.
Who makes the model?
JLab makes it in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly; the size and material are confirmed with the quotation.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of laboratory equipment and biology teaching models in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The model is made in JLab’s own works, not bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy it factory-direct, and every piece is visually inspected before dispatch.
