What Is the Hydrocephalus Model Used For?
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is made by the choroid plexus in the brain’s ventricles, flows through them and the cerebral aqueduct to bathe the brain and spinal cord, and is absorbed into the venous blood. If its flow or absorption is blocked, the fluid accumulates, the ventricles widen and the surrounding brain tissue is compressed. In infants, whose skull bones have not yet fused, the head enlarges and the anterior fontanelle may bulge; downward-gazing “sunset” eyes, irritability and vomiting are other classic signs.
Teachers use the model when explaining CSF circulation, congenital and acquired causes, and why early referral matters. It suits neuro-anatomy, paediatric and nursing teaching; it is a study aid, not for clinical use.

- Quantity — at least 10 units.
- Companion items — the brain, head and neck or neural-tube-defect models listed below.
Frequently Asked Questions
What causes hydrocephalus?
Usually a blockage in the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, such as a narrowed cerebral aqueduct. It may be present at birth, often alongside spina bifida, or develop later after meningitis, bleeding in the brain or a tumour.
Why does an affected baby’s head grow so large?
The skull bones of an infant are not yet joined, so the pressure of the extra fluid pushes them apart and the head circumference increases.
How is hydrocephalus treated?
Usually by surgery — most often a shunt that drains the fluid to the abdomen, or an endoscopic third ventriculostomy that creates a new outflow path.
Who makes the model, and are its size and material listed?
JLab manufactures it in Ambala, India. The listing gives no size or material, so these are confirmed when JLab quotes.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of laboratory equipment and anatomy and pathology teaching models, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The model is made in JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so colleges, dealers and importers order it factory-direct, and each piece is inspected before dispatch. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for instance New Zealand in Oceania, Indonesia in Southeast Asia, Eswatini in Southern Africa, Ireland in Western Europe and Jordan in the Middle East. Tender buyers can refer to the JLab lab tenders page.
