How the Extraction Cycle Runs
The sample sits in a thimble inside the chamber. Solvent boiling in the flask below rises as vapour, condenses above the extractor and drips onto the sample; once the chamber has filled, the solution siphons back into the flask and the cycle begins again. Because the same solvent keeps returning, a modest volume can work through the sample many times.
Capacities With More Than One Joint Set
The 60 ml extractor has a B34 socket with a B24 or B34 cone, and the 100 ml size comes as B34 socket with B34 cone or B40 socket with B24 cone. The 600 ml extractor is the odd one out: its top is a 75 mm flat flange in place of a socket, above a B34 cone.
