This 8 mm fisher is the middle size of our plastic wall plugs. At 4 cm long it sits deeper in the wall than the 6 mm plug and takes a thicker screw. That makes it the usual pick for shelf brackets, notice boards and tool racks on brick or concrete. Packs hold 100 plugs.

Workshop Exercises for Wall Fixing

A common ITI exercise is hanging a wall-mounted item, for example the box of a First Aid Kit near the workshop door. Students hold the item in place, mark through its fixing holes and drill each mark with a masonry bit from the Drill Bit Set. After pressing the plugs home, they drive the screws with the Yankee Screwdriver, which turns the bit as the handle is pushed.

Instructors then check the work. Each plug should finish flush with the wall face, and the screw head should pull the fixed part tight without crushing it. A plug that stands proud usually means the hole was too shallow.

Frequently Asked Questions

How deep should the hole be for a 4 cm fisher?
Make it a little deeper than the plug. The extra depth leaves room for drilling dust and for the screw tip. Without it, the plug can be pushed back out of the wall as the screw goes in.

What screw thickness suits an 8 mm wall plug?
Use a screw that enters the plug with light pressure but is clearly thinner than the plug body. A screw that is too thin will not expand the plug, while one that is too thick can split it or crack soft brick.

When should I choose 8 mm instead of 6 mm?
Pick the 8 mm size when the item is heavier or needs a thicker screw, such as a shelf bracket or a tool rack. For cable clips and small signs, the 6 mm Fisher is enough.

Do I need a hammer drill for brick walls?
Soft brick can often be drilled with a masonry bit in an ordinary drill. Concrete, stone and hard brick drill far more easily with hammer action, as on the Rotary Hammer Drill.
