What Is the Hemorrhage Chart Used For?
Haemorrhage simply means bleeding. Arteries carry blood away from the heart under pressure, so bleeding from an artery is bright red and can spurt, and it needs fast action. A pressure point is a place where an artery runs close to the surface over a bone — in the upper arm or the groin, for example — so that pressing it against the bone reduces the blood flow beyond. Knowing where the main arteries lie helps learners judge how serious a wound is.
Current first-aid courses teach firm, direct pressure on the wound with a dressing as the first and main way to control bleeding, together with calling for emergency help when bleeding is severe; pressure points are now given much less emphasis. Use the chart for anatomy and for discussing how bleeding is controlled, and follow your current course guidance for the treatment steps. It suits school and college health education, nursing and first-aid classes and workplace training; the laminated face wipes clean and the chart rolls up on its rollers.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Hemorrhage Chart show?
The location of the main arteries in the body and the pressure points used in first aid to control bleeding.
Are pressure points still taught for bleeding control?
Much less than before. Current first-aid training relies mainly on firm direct pressure on the wound, so treat the pressure points on the chart as anatomy and background, and teach treatment from current guidance.
Why is the name spelt Hemorrhage?
Hemorrhage is the American spelling and haemorrhage the British spelling of the same word; both mean bleeding.
What size and finish is the chart?
50 x 75 cm, laminated with thick plastic film on both sides and fitted with plastic rollers.
