What Is the Normal Flora Model Used For?
Each body site has its own resident community. Staphylococcus epidermidis and diphtheroids live on the skin, viridans streptococci in the mouth and throat, and lactobacilli in the vagina, while the acid stomach holds comparatively few bacteria. The large intestine carries by far the most, mainly anaerobes such as Bacteroides and Bifidobacterium, with Escherichia coli present in smaller numbers. The topic shows students that microbes are not only germs: resident flora compete with pathogens for space and nutrients, gut bacteria make vitamin K and some B vitamins, and NCERT class 12 notes that lactic acid bacteria in the stomach help check disease-causing microbes.
College and nursing courses also use it to introduce opportunistic infection. Gut E. coli that reaches the urinary tract is the classic example of a harmless resident turning into a pathogen.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does normal flora mean?
The community of microorganisms, mainly bacteria, that normally lives on the skin and moist body surfaces such as the mouth, gut and vagina without causing disease. Many textbooks now call it the normal microbiota.
Which part of the body has the most bacteria?
The large intestine. Its population is dense and mostly anaerobic, whereas stomach acid keeps numbers low higher up the gut.
Which body sites and organisms does this model show?
The listing does not specify them. Ask JLab for a description and photo with your quotation.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a maker of biology and microbiology teaching aids in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The model is produced in JLab’s own works, not bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers order from the maker directly. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Botswana in Southern Africa, Taiwan in East Asia, Turkey in the Middle East, Egypt in North Africa and Paraguay in South America.
