What Is the Nuclear Fusion Chart Used For?

In nuclear fusion, two light nuclei — for example the hydrogen isotopes deuterium and tritium — combine to form a heavier nucleus such as helium. The products have slightly less mass than the reacting nuclei, and the missing mass is released as energy according to Einstein’s mass–energy relation. Because nuclei are positively charged and repel one another, fusion needs extremely high temperatures and pressures, which exist in the cores of stars; the Sun shines by fusing hydrogen into helium. On Earth, uncontrolled fusion takes place in the hydrogen bomb, while research reactors such as tokamaks try to hold a very hot plasma in magnetic fields to obtain controlled fusion power.

Fusion is studied alongside fission in the class 12 physics chapter on nuclei and in introductory college nuclear physics, where students compare the two ways of releasing nuclear energy. The chart gives the classroom or nuclear physics lab a reference for that comparison and for astronomy lessons on how stars shine. The listing does not describe the panels printed on it, so ask for a preview image if you need to check them.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Number of charts — the minimum order is 10 units.
  • Companion nuclear titles — Nuclear Reactor and Radioactivity from this series, and the Nuclear Energy chart.
  • Astronomy link — the Life Cycle of a Star chart pairs well for lessons on stellar energy.
  • Delivery — destination country, port or city and preferred delivery terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is fusion different from fission?
Fusion joins light nuclei together, while fission splits a heavy nucleus such as uranium. Both release energy because the total mass decreases; today’s nuclear power stations use fission, which the Nuclear Reactor chart in this series covers.

What exactly does the chart show?
The listing gives the topic but does not describe the panels. Ask JLab for a preview image to see the diagrams and labels before ordering.

Is it pitched at school or college level?
Fusion is taught in class 12 physics and in first college courses on nuclear physics. The preview image will show whether the depth suits your students.

What are the size, weight and finish?
58 x 90 cm and 228 g, about 58 x 4 x 2 cm rolled. It is offset printed in full colour using CTP technology, laminated front and back with 30 micron heat-sealable polyester, and the surface is markable and washable. English only.

Who supplies the Nuclear Fusion chart?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab), Ambala, Haryana, India supplies the chart and quotes for it directly.

Supplier

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a company incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. It supplies this physics chart series alongside the laboratory apparatus it makes, which lets schools and colleges add nuclear physics charts to an equipment order. Each chart is checked visually before packing. JLab exports worldwide and serves buyers in every region — for example Barbados in Central America and the Caribbean, Malawi in East Africa, Japan in East Asia, the UK in Western Europe and Algeria in North Africa. Tender buyers can consult the lab tenders page.
