What Is the Body Louse Model Used For?
The body louse looks much like the head louse but lives differently: it hides and lays its eggs in the seams of clothing and bedding, moving onto the skin only to feed on blood. It flourishes where people cannot wash or change their clothes — in crowded shelters, during displacement and in cold weather — and it disappears when clothing and bedding are regularly washed in hot water and changed.
Unlike the head louse, the body louse is an important disease vector. It transmits epidemic typhus (Rickettsia prowazekii), trench fever (Bartonella quintana) and louse-borne relapsing fever (Borrelia recurrentis). The model, with its egg, helps students connect a small insect’s habits with outbreaks in emergencies, making it useful in community-medicine and public-health courses as well as zoology practicals.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the body louse different from the head louse?
The two look alike, but the body louse lives and lays its eggs in clothing rather than on the scalp, and it can carry diseases such as epidemic typhus, which the head louse is not known to do.
Where are body louse eggs found?
Mostly glued to fibres along the seams of clothing, close to the skin, rather than on body hair.
Who manufactures it?
JLab (Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd), at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd trades as JLab and manufactures zoology models, biology teaching aids and laboratory equipment in India. Incorporated in 2017, it is based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana, and makes this body louse model in its own works instead of sourcing it from a trader — so colleges, schools, dealers and importers order from the manufacturer itself, and each piece is inspected before packing. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Oman in the Middle East, Sri Lanka in South Asia, Kenya in East Africa, New Zealand in Oceania and Japan in East Asia.
