What Is the Rat Flea Life Cycle Model Used For?
Fleas go through complete metamorphosis. Eggs laid on the host drop into its nest or bedding; the legless, worm-like larvae feed on debris, including dried blood in the droppings of adult fleas; each larva then spins a silk cocoon and pupates. The adult that emerges is wingless and flattened from side to side, with strong hind legs for jumping onto a passing host, and both sexes feed on blood.
Rat fleas such as Xenopsylla cheopis, the oriental rat flea, matter in public health because they carry Yersinia pestis, the plague bacterium, from infected rats to people, especially when rats die and their fleas look for new hosts. The model helps teachers link the insect’s biology to rodent and flea control in zoology, community-medicine and health-education courses.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a plague model be quoted with it?
Yes. JLab lists an Epidemiology and Pathogenesis of Plague Model and a Plague Chart, linked below, and both can go on the same enquiry as this flea model.
How does the rat flea spread plague?
A flea that feeds on an infected rat picks up the plague bacterium, which can multiply in its gut; when it bites again, bacteria pass into the new host. Rodent and flea control together interrupt this chain.
Who manufactures the model?
JLab — Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd — at its own works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is how Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd trades: an Indian manufacturer of zoology models and lab equipment, incorporated in 2017, with its base on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The flea model is made in-house rather than resold from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy at source, and every piece is inspected before it is packed. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Benin in West Africa, Germany in Western Europe, Bolivia in South America, Samoa in Oceania and Cambodia in Southeast Asia.
