What Is the Phthirus Pubis Model Used For?
The crab louse gets its name from its short, broad body and the large claws on its middle and hind legs, which grip coarse hair. It lives mainly in pubic hair but can also be found in other coarse hair such as the armpits, beard or eyelashes. The female cements her eggs — the nits — to hair shafts; nymphs hatch, moult as they grow and become adults, feeding on blood throughout. Spread is mainly through close physical, often sexual, contact.
Showing the egg and adult side by side lets teachers explain what a nit is and how it differs from the living louse. Set beside head and body louse models, it shows the contrast between the crab-like Phthirus and the longer, narrower Pediculus lice, which is useful in zoology classification lessons as well as in nursing and health-education courses.
Frequently Asked Questions

OEM Manufacturer
JLab, formally Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, is an Indian manufacturer of zoology and biology teaching models, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. It makes this louse model in its own works rather than reselling a trader’s stock, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy from source and each unit is inspected before dispatch. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Kuwait in the Middle East, Botswana in Southern Africa, Germany in Western Europe, Gambia in West Africa and Estonia in Northern Europe. Tender buyers may refer to the JLab lab tenders page.
