How Does It Compare with the Digital R.P.M. Meter?

ModelRangeMethod and listed details
This stroboscope (EL-TAMI-1007)100 to 10,000 RPMFlashing light freezes the motion; speed read from a calibrated dial; mains, with battery option
Digital R.P.M. Meter100 to 10,000 RPMNon-contact digital tachometer with LCD display; 9 V battery; supplied with sensor and working manual

Both cover the same speed range without touching the machine. Choose the stroboscope when students should also see the stroboscopic effect itself, or when you want to watch a moving part as if it were still; choose the R.P.M. meter for a quick digital number.

What Is the Stroboscope Used For?

A stroboscope flashes light at an adjustable rate. When the flash rate matches the rotation rate, a fan blade, pulley or marked disc lights up in the same position every time and appears to stand still, and the speed is read from the dial. In physics labs it demonstrates the stroboscopic effect and persistence of vision, and lets students measure the speed of motors, wheels and vibrating parts; in engineering and ITI workshops it checks machine speeds without stopping or touching the machine. Start at the top of the range and turn the dial down until the first single, still image appears: a still image also appears at whole-number fractions of the true speed. Remember that a part that looks stationary under the flash is still moving.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Power — mains operation as standard, or the battery-operated option.
  • Mains supply — state your local voltage so it can be confirmed.
  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it run on batteries?
It is mains operated as standard, and a battery-operated option is offered. State which you need in the enquiry.

Why does the reading sometimes show half the real speed?
A rotating part also looks still when the light flashes at a half, a third or another fraction of its speed. Starting from the highest setting and lowering it until the first single still image appears gives the true speed.

Who manufactures this stroboscope?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of physics and engineering lab equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The stroboscope comes from JLab’s own works, not from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy direct from the maker. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Tanzania in East Africa, South Africa in Southern Africa, Cyprus in Southern Europe, Uruguay in South America and Sri Lanka in South Asia.
