Clamp On Meter

Product Code : EL-TAMI-1009
Jlab Export is a leading Clamp On Meter Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Clamp On Meter (code EL-TAMI-1009) is an electrical test meter that measures alternating current up to 500 A without breaking the circuit, working by induction in a coil, and also reads AC voltage up to 500 V; DC and resistance are measured through test leads. It is used in electrical workshops, ITI and polytechnic labs and physics labs. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with Other JLab Clamp Meters?

ModelCurrent range as listedOther listed details
This meter (EL-TAMI-1009)0–500 A ACAC voltage 0–500 V; DC and resistance with leads
Digital Clamp MeterUp to 1000 AAuto or manual ranging; digital and analog display, 4000 count, backlit
3¾ Digit General Purpose Clamp MeterNot stated on its pageAverage sensing; peak hold; DC A zero adjustment; hand guard; frequency measurement

Choose this meter for teaching and workshop checks of AC current and voltage up to 500 A and 500 V. The digital clamp meter covers higher currents, and the general-purpose model adds peak hold and frequency measurement.

What Is the Clamp On Meter Used For?

When the jaw closes around a conductor carrying alternating current, the changing magnetic field around that conductor induces a current in the coil inside the meter, in the same way as a current transformer, and the meter displays the conductor current. This lets electricians and students measure the current drawn by motors, heaters and distribution circuits without switching off or disconnecting anything. In ITI electrician and wireman trades, polytechnic electrical labs and physics classes it also demonstrates electromagnetic induction in a practical tool. Clamp around one conductor only — if both the live and neutral wires pass through the jaw, their fields cancel and the reading falls to nearly zero. Make sure the expected current is within 500 A, and keep hands away from bare live parts.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Ranges — this model covers 500 A and 500 V AC; ask for a higher-current model if you need more.
  • Test leads — DC and resistance use leads; confirm the leads supplied in the enquiry.
  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to break the circuit to measure current?
No. Close the clamp around a single conductor and the AC current is read by induction, up to 500 A.

Can it measure DC and resistance?
Yes, through test leads. The listing does not give the DC and resistance ranges, so ask JLab if you need specific values.

Why does the meter read nearly zero on a two-core cable?
Because the current goes out on one wire and returns on the other, so their magnetic fields cancel inside the jaw. Clamp around the live or the neutral conductor on its own.

Who manufactures this clamp meter?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of electrical and electronic lab instruments in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. This meter is made at JLab’s own works rather than bought in, so institutes, workshops, dealers and importers buy factory-direct. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Hong Kong in East Asia, Sri Lanka in South Asia, Congo in Central Africa, Bulgaria in Eastern Europe and Canada in North America.
