What Is a V.T.V.M Used For?
A vacuum tube voltmeter places a valve amplifier between the test leads and the meter movement, so it draws far less current from the circuit under test than an ordinary moving-coil voltmeter. That makes it useful for reading voltages in high-resistance parts of a circuit — grid and bias networks, amplifier stages and voltage dividers — where a low-resistance meter would pull the reading down. With AC, DC and resistance ranges in one cabinet, it serves as a general bench meter in B.Sc. physics and electronics practicals, engineering and polytechnic labs, ITI electronics workshops and radio servicing classes, and it suits experiments that use vacuum tube characteristics kits.
Before a measurement, let the instrument warm up, set the pointer to zero and start on the highest range, then switch down until the reading falls in the readable part of the scale. On the resistance ranges, make sure the circuit is switched off and capacitors are discharged first.
What to Specify When Ordering
- R.F. measurement — the listing gives R.F. readings in 4 ranges; tell JLab the RF voltages and frequencies you need to measure.
- Mains supply — the meter works on 220 V, 50 Hz; state your local supply.
- Test leads and probes — ask what is supplied with the meter and list any extra leads you want.
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can this V.T.V.M measure?
AC voltage in seven ranges up to 1500 V full scale, DC voltage in the ranges listed up to 1500 V, resistance up to 1000 megohm in seven ranges, and R.F. voltage as an R.M.S. reading in 4 ranges.
Why use a vacuum tube voltmeter instead of a moving-coil voltmeter?
The valve amplifier means the meter takes very little current from the circuit, so readings across high-resistance points are not dragged down as they are with a simple moving-coil meter.
How is it different from the A.C. Milli Voltmeter?
The A.C. Milli Voltmeter is a digital instrument for small AC voltages. The V.T.V.M is an analogue meter that also reads DC voltage and resistance, with ranges up to 1500 V.
What should an export enquiry include?
The quantity, destination country and port or city, preferred delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, your mains supply, any packing or labelling needs, and a tender reference if one applies.
Who manufactures this voltmeter?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, and supplies it direct to institutions and dealers.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of test and measuring instruments and teaching lab equipment, incorporated in 2017 and located on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The V.T.V.M is built in the company’s own works instead of being bought in, which lets engineering colleges, institutes, dealers and importers order straight from the maker; each meter is visually checked before dispatch, and repeat orders come from the same source. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Sweden in Northern Europe, Kazakhstan in Central Asia, South Korea in East Asia, Mozambique in East Africa and Canada in North America. For tender supplies, see the JLab lab tenders page.
