What Is the Binary to Gray Code Converter Used For?
Gray code is a binary code in which consecutive values differ in only one bit. That property matters in rotary and shaft position encoders, where several bits changing at once could give a false reading between two positions, and the same ordering is used to label the rows and columns of a Karnaugh map. Converting is simple logic: the most significant Gray bit equals the most significant binary bit, and every other Gray bit is the EX-OR of that binary bit and the next more significant one, so a standard converter needs three EX-OR gates for four bits.
On this trainer students set a binary number with the four SPDT switches, read the Gray code on the four LEDs, and work through all sixteen input combinations to build and check the conversion table. The printed diagram shows the circuit, and because the connections are brought out to front-panel sockets, students can trace signals and take readings at each stage. It fits digital electronics syllabi for B.Sc. physics and electronics, engineering diplomas and ITI electronics trades.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units; labs often order one trainer per bench group.
- Mains supply of your country — state it so JLab can confirm the power input; the listing gives only the 5 V DC, 150 mA internal supply.
- Other code and arithmetic trainers — add the related trainers below to the same enquiry if you are equipping a full digital lab.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a binary to Gray code converter do?
It turns an ordinary binary number into Gray code, in which only one bit changes between neighbouring values. This trainer works with 4-bit numbers.
What power supply does the trainer have?
A built-in DC regulated supply rated 5 V DC, 150 mA, which powers the logic circuit. The listing does not state the mains input, so mention your supply voltage when you enquire.
How are inputs set and outputs shown?
The four binary inputs are selected with SPDT switches and the four Gray code outputs are shown on LED indicators.
Can students see and test the circuit?
Yes. The circuit diagram is printed on the trainer, the ICs sit inside, and the connections are brought out to sockets on the front panel for tracing and testing.
What is the minimum order and dispatch time?
The minimum order is 10 units, sold individually. Orders are usually dispatched within 7–10 working days, and every trainer is visually inspected first; export transit time depends on the destination.
What should an export quotation request include?
The quantity, destination country and port or city, preferred delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, any labelling needs, and a tender reference if one applies.
Who manufactures this trainer?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of teaching and laboratory equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and located on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. This code-converter trainer is built at JLab’s own works rather than sourced from a trader, so colleges, dealers and importers buy it direct, each unit is visually inspected before dispatch, and repeat orders come from the same maker. The company holds GSTIN 06AADCJ9848D1ZE and Legal Entity Identifier 549300DTGS77DGYD6N03. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Serbia in Southern Europe, Nepal in South Asia, the Czech Republic in Eastern Europe, Lesotho in Southern Africa and Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. Tender details are on the JLab lab tenders page.
