What Is the Logarithmic Amplifier Trainer Used For?
It is used for the log and antilog amplifier practical in B.Sc. physics and electronics, engineering, polytechnic and ITI/TVET labs. A log amplifier places a diode in the feedback path of an inverting op amp. Because the current through a forward-biased diode rises exponentially with the voltage across it, the output voltage becomes proportional to the logarithm of the input voltage (with inverted sign), and the circuit works for one input polarity only. Swapping the diode to the input and a resistor into the feedback path gives the antilog amplifier, whose output follows the exponential of the input.
Students vary the input voltage, read the output on a DMM, and plot output against the logarithm of the input. The slope of that straight line gives the diode’s ideality factor, the number in the diode equation that describes how closely a real diode follows the ideal exponential law. Log and antilog stages are used to compress signals that cover a wide range and, combined, to multiply or divide voltages. Their output depends on temperature, so readings should be taken with the trainer at a steady room temperature.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 trainers.
- Diode — the listing names 4007/OA 79; state which diode type you need if your experiment sheet specifies one.
- DMM — confirm whether the digital multimeter named in the listing should be supplied with each trainer.
Frequently Asked Questions
What experiments can be performed?
The log amplifier, the antilog amplifier, the ideality factor for the log amplifier and a V1–V0 graph for the antilog amplifier, all using the IC 741 and the diode fitted to the trainer.
How is the ideality factor found?
From the log amplifier readings: when the output voltage is plotted against the natural logarithm of the input, the slope equals the ideality factor multiplied by the diode’s thermal voltage, so the factor can be calculated from the slope.
Which diode is used?
The listing gives the diode as 4007/OA 79. If you need one particular type, say so in your enquiry and JLab will confirm.
What power supplies does it have?
A ±15 V DC supply and a DC regulated, continuously variable supply with short-circuit and overload protection. The variable range is not stated in the listing.
Is a digital multimeter included?
A DMM is named in the listing without saying whether it is supplied with the trainer. Confirm it in your enquiry.
What should an export enquiry include?
Quantity, destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling needs and any tender reference.
Who manufactures this trainer?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of electronics and physics lab trainers in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The logarithmic amplifier trainer is built at JLab’s own works rather than sourced from a trader, so colleges, universities, dealers and importers buy direct from the factory, each unit is visually inspected before dispatch, and follow-up orders are handled by the maker. The company holds GSTIN 06AADCJ9848D1ZE and Legal Entity Identifier 549300DTGS77DGYD6N03. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Armenia in Eastern Europe, Gambia in West Africa, Iceland in Northern Europe, Singapore in Southeast Asia and Angola in Central Africa. Tender buyers can see the lab tenders page.
