Measuring Lengths and Angles on One Stand
For a length, the part is moved under the eyepiece with the micrometer head and a reading is taken at each edge of the feature; the difference between the two is the dimension. For an angle, the goniometric head is turned until its reference line lies along one edge and then the other, and the two readings on its 360° scale give the angle between them. The rotary measuring stage turns the part itself against its own circular scale when that is easier than turning the head.
