What Is the Vertical Jump Test Mat Used For?
The vertical jump is a standard test of explosive leg power in physical education, sports coaching and exercise physiology. The traditional wall-reach method needs chalked fingers, a marked wall and two readings, while this mat replaces such slower set-ups: the athlete stands on the mat, fastens the belt at the waist and jumps straight up, and the tape left pulled through the feeder gives the jump height directly. Because the belt adjusts to each athlete and the mat sets up in seconds, a teacher or coach can test a whole squad in one session and compare results across a season or before and after a training programme.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 mats; plan one per testing station.
- Size confirmation — the listed size is 22 x 22 x 1/4 with no unit, so ask JLab to confirm it if floor space matters.
- Other fitness-test items — long jump mats, flexibility boxes and pedometers can be added to the same enquiry.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the vertical jump mat measure height?
A belt around the athlete’s waist is linked to a tape that runs through a feeder on the mat. When the athlete jumps, tape is pulled through; the feeder offers very little resistance and stops the tape at the highest point, so the length pulled through shows the jump height.
Does it read in inches or centimetres?
Both. The mat measures in inches and centimetres.
Can one mat be used for athletes of different heights?
Yes. The belt adjusts to the height of each athlete, so the same mat serves a whole class or team.
