A wall cover trims the hole where the copper pipes, drain hose and cable of a split air conditioner pass through the wall. This one is made of PVC and measures 80 mm. It fits on the inlet or the outlet side of the hole, where the duct run begins or ends.

Split AC Installation Practicals
In a refrigeration and air conditioning trade lab, trainees practise the outdoor run of a split unit from start to finish. They mark the wall and drill the hole with a slight fall to the outside. The insulated line set is passed through and the wall cover goes over the hole. The pipes are then laid in a Base And Cover duct fixed along the wall.
Before the cover is fitted, students wrap each copper line in Copper Pipe Insulation and check that the drain hose runs downhill all the way. Teachers can use the same practice wall to show how a neat cover closes the gap around the pipes. The finished run then connects to a Split Air-Conditioner for the evacuation and charging exercise.

Which side of the wall does the cover go on?
It suits either side. Fit it at the indoor end, where the pipes leave the room, or at the outdoor end, where the duct starts its run down the wall.
What size of duct does it go with?
The cover is 80 mm, the same width as the 80 x 60 mm Base And Cover duct in this range. Match the cover to the duct width before drilling, so the duct meets the cover squarely.
Why should the wall hole slope?
A hole drilled with a slight fall towards the outside lets condensate in the drain hose run out by gravity. It also stops rainwater from creeping back along the pipes into the room.
How is the gap around the pipes sealed?
The cover hides the rough edge of the hole. Any space left around the pipes behind it is usually packed with sealing putty, which keeps out draughts and insects and can be dug out later for service.
