What Is the Dicot Stem Model Used For?

What is the difference between a TS and an LS of a stem?
A transverse section is cut straight across the stem, so the tissues appear as rings and bundles; a longitudinal section is cut along its length, so the same tissues appear as long strips of cells.
What do the cambium and the cork cambium do?
The vascular cambium is a layer of dividing cells between phloem and xylem; as a complete ring it adds new xylem inside and new phloem outside, thickening the stem. The cork cambium produces cork, and lenticels are loose openings in the cork for gas exchange.
