What Is the Dicot Stem Model Used For?

What does the cambium do in a dicot stem?
It is a thin layer of dividing cells between the phloem and the xylem. It adds new xylem towards the inside and new phloem towards the outside, which is how the stem grows in girth.
What do the radial and tangential sections add?
Lengthwise views. The radial section runs along a radius through the centre and the tangential section at right angles to a radius, away from the centre, so with the cross section the tissues are seen from three directions.
