What Is the Dicot Stem Column Used For?
It supports botany lessons on secondary growth. The cambium adds new wood on its inner side and new phloem on its outer side; where the growing season comes once a year, each year’s wood forms one annual ring, so counting rings gives the approximate age of a woody stem. As the stem thickens, the periderm takes over from the epidermis as its protective outer layer.
