Reading an Angle Against a Standard
Collimated light carrying the image of an illuminated scale leaves the objective, reflects from the polished work face and returns to be seen against a fixed datum scale in the eyepiece. The instrument is first set on a standard angle; when the work takes the place of that standard, the shift of the reflected scale gives the difference between the two angles directly.
Angle Dekkor or Auto Collimator?
Both rely on autocollimation. The Angle Dekkor reads the reflected scale straight off, which makes it quick for comparison work against angle standards, while an auto collimator follows small tilts along a surface for straightness and flatness runs.
