What Is the Basic Thyristor Trainer Used For?
Thyristors are the switches of power electronics. An SCR stays off until a gate pulse turns it on, then keeps conducting until its current falls below the holding current; a TRIAC acts like two SCRs connected in inverse parallel, so it can switch AC in both half-cycles; and a DIAC has no gate and conducts in either direction once its break-over voltage is reached. The UJT is not a thyristor, but its negative-resistance region makes it a simple pulse source for triggering one. Students take readings with the built-in supplies and meters to plot the characteristic of each device and then study its typical applications, as part of power electronics and electronic-devices practicals.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of trainers for your lab benches.
- Single-device boards — add any DIAC, TRIAC or SCR training boards you also want; they are separate items that can share one quotation.
- Bench instruments — oscilloscopes and other instruments are separate catalogue items and can be quoted on the same enquiry.
Frequently Asked Questions
What power supplies and meters are built in?
Three variable DC regulated supplies (0–5 V, 0–15 V and 0–50 V DC) and analog moving-coil meters on the panel: a voltmeter reading 0–20 V DC and an ammeter with 0–200 mA and 2 mA / 20 mA ranges.
What accessories are supplied with the trainer?
The standard accessories are a power cord, patch cords, an instruction manual, a two-pin mains lead with two 4 mm banana plugs on one side, and one 60 W lamp.
How does it differ from JLab’s single-device training boards?
This trainer covers all four devices on one panel. JLab also lists boards dedicated to one device, such as the Training Board for DIAC, the Training Board for Triac and the Silicon Controlled Rectifier board, each with its own experiments for that device.
What mains supply does it need?
It runs on 230 V AC ±10% at 50 Hz. The cabinet measures 455 x 300 mm and weighs about 6.0 kg.
What should an export enquiry include?
Give the number of trainers, the destination country and port or city, your preferred delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, any packing or labelling requirements, and the tender reference if the purchase is for a tender.
Who manufactures this thyristor trainer?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, builds it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, and quotes for it directly as the manufacturer.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an electronics and engineering lab equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. This trainer comes from JLab’s own works rather than a trading house, so engineering colleges, polytechnics, dealers and importers buy it straight from the maker, and repeat orders are handled by the same team. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Thailand in Southeast Asia, Uzbekistan in Central Asia, Slovenia in Southern Europe, Hungary in Eastern Europe and Latvia in Northern Europe. Institutions buying through a tender can see the JLab lab tenders page.
