Training Board for DIAC

Product Code : EL-AET-1462
Jlab Export is a leading Training Board for DIAC Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Training Board for DIAC (code EL-AET-1462) is an analog electronics training board for plotting the V-I characteristics of a DIAC — its break-over voltage, negative resistance region and break-over symmetry — and for using the device as a sawtooth waveform generator and a pulse train generator. A regulated 0–50 V DC supply, an unregulated AC supply and two 65 mm rectangular-dial meters are built in. Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) produces the board in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with the JLab Diac Characteristics Apparatus?

Choose this board when the practical goes beyond the V-I curve to the DIAC’s use as a sawtooth and pulse train generator, with the waveforms viewed on an oscilloscope. The Diac Characteristics Apparatus is built for the V-I characteristic study, with its diac mounted on the panel beside two round meters.

What Is the DIAC Training Board Used For?

A DIAC (diode for alternating current) is a two-terminal trigger device that blocks current in either direction until the voltage across it reaches the break-over voltage, then switches into conduction while the voltage across it falls. Because it behaves almost the same way in both directions, it is widely used to fire TRIACs in AC lamp dimmers and motor speed controls. On this board students trace that switching action point by point in both directions, then see the DIAC turn a slowly rising voltage into a sawtooth wave and a train of sharp pulses — a power electronics and semiconductor devices practical in diploma, BSc electronics and engineering courses.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Model — this board or the Diac Characteristics Apparatus compared above.
  • Number of boards for the laboratory.
  • Other apparatus or companion thyristor trainers to be quoted on the same enquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the break-over voltage of a DIAC?
It is the voltage at which the DIAC stops blocking and switches into conduction. Plotting the V-I characteristic in both directions shows the break-over voltage on each side, and comparing the two values shows how symmetrical the device is.

Why does a DIAC show a negative resistance region?
Just after break-over, the current through the DIAC rises while the voltage across it falls, so the slope of the V-I curve is negative. This sudden switching is what lets the device dump the charge of a capacitor quickly, the action behind its use as a sawtooth and pulse generator.

How does a DIAC produce a sawtooth waveform?
In a relaxation circuit, a capacitor charges through a resistance until its voltage reaches the DIAC’s break-over voltage; the DIAC then conducts, discharges the capacitor and switches off again, and the cycle repeats. The capacitor voltage forms a sawtooth, and the discharge current forms a train of pulses.

Is an oscilloscope needed?
Yes. A 20 MHz cathode ray oscilloscope is required as other apparatus for viewing the waveforms. It is a separate item that can be added to the same enquiry.

What information is needed for an export quotation?
The number of boards, the destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling needs, and the tender reference if the purchase is against a tender.

Who manufactures this DIAC board?
JLab — Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd — makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of electronics training boards and physics apparatus in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The DIAC board is built at JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, which lets engineering colleges, polytechnics, dealers and importers order factory-direct; each board is visually inspected before it ships, and repeat orders and spares are handled by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Japan in East Asia, Ukraine in Eastern Europe, South Africa in Southern Africa, Fiji in Oceania and Tajikistan in Central Asia. Tender details are on the JLab lab tenders page.
