Product Code : EL-ERAM-4371
Jlab Export is a leading Collection of 9 Mohs Hardness Set Manufacturer, and suppliers in India
Collection of 9 Mohs Hardness Set (code EL-ERAM-4371) is a set of nine reference minerals that make up the Mohs scale of hardness, from talc (1) to corundum (9), used in school and college geology, geography and earth science practicals to rank minerals by their scratch resistance. Because a harder mineral scratches a softer one, students can place an unknown specimen on the scale. JLab (Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd) prepares the set at its works in Ambala, India.

What Is the Mohs Hardness Set Used For?
Hardness is one of the first tests in mineral identification. Students hold the unknown specimen firmly and try to scratch it with each reference mineral in turn, starting from talc; after each attempt they wipe away the powder to check whether a real groove was cut or the softer mineral simply left a trace. If quartz scratches the unknown but orthoclase does not, its hardness lies between 6 and 7. The scale is a ranking rather than a measurement — the step from corundum to diamond is far larger than any step within the set — which is a useful point for senior students. The set suits rocks-and-minerals topics in secondary-school geography and science, college geology and earth science practicals, and teacher training, and pairs well with other school lab equipment for mineral study.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — at least 10 sets; one set per bench or group lets every student handle the scale.
- Testing tools — add the complete test kit if you also need a streak plate, magnet, hand lens and reference plates.
- Related property sets — streak, fracture, cleavage and lustre collections can go on the same enquiry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which minerals are in the set?
Talc, gypsum, calcite, fluorite, apatite, orthoclase, quartz, topaz and corundum — the Mohs scale from hardness 1 to 9.
Why is diamond not included?
Diamond is the tenth mineral of the Mohs scale but is not part of this set. Corundum, the hardest mineral here, already scratches nearly every other mineral students are likely to meet, so the nine are enough to rank classroom specimens.
Does the set come with a streak plate or magnet?
No, this listing is the nine minerals only. The Rocks and Minerals Test Kit adds magnetite, a streak plate, magnet, hand lens, reference plates and an instruction manual.
Who manufactures the set?
JLab, the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, prepares it at its works in Ambala, India, and supplies it directly.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an educational lab equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and working from Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The hardness set is made up at JLab’s own works instead of being bought from a trader, which lets schools, colleges, dealers and importers order factory-direct; each set is checked visually before dispatch and repeat orders come from the same source. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example the Maldives in South Asia, Bolivia in South America, Laos in Southeast Asia, Congo in Central Africa and Malawi in East Africa. For tenders, see the JLab lab tenders page.
