Product Code : EL-ERAM-4370
Jlab Export is a leading Rocks and Minerals Test Kit Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Rocks and Minerals Test Kit (code EL-ERAM-4370) is a mineral identification kit that combines a Mohs hardness scale set with the tools for streak, magnetism and acid reaction tests, for hands-on geology and earth science lessons in schools and colleges. It holds 10 minerals — talc to corundum on the hardness scale, plus magnetite — and an instruction manual. Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) puts the kit together at its works in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with Other JLab Hardness Testing Sets?

ItemWhat you getSuits
This test kit (EL-ERAM-4370)Nine Mohs scale minerals, magnetite, testing tools, empty acid bottle and instruction manualRunning hardness, streak, magnetism and acid tests from one kit
Collection of 9 Mohs Hardness SetThe nine scale minerals, talc (1) to corundum (9)A reference hardness scale without the tools
Mohs Hardness PencilsBoxed set of hardness pencils covering 3 to 9 on the Mohs scale, with notesScratch-testing specimens with a mineral point held in a handle

Choose the kit when students need to carry out several identification tests rather than hardness alone; the nine-mineral set is the simpler choice when the lesson covers only the Mohs scale.

What Is the Rocks and Minerals Test Kit Used For?

Identifying a mineral in a school or college lab relies on a handful of simple tests, and this kit covers four of them. In the hardness test students try to scratch one specimen with another: a harder mineral scratches a softer one, so an unknown can be placed between two points of the Mohs scale, while the knife, glass plate and copper plate serve as everyday references. The streak test rubs a mineral across the streak plate to show the colour of its powder. The magnet picks out magnetite, which is strongly attracted, and in the acid test a drop of dilute acid makes carbonate minerals such as calcite fizz as they give off carbon dioxide. The hand lens helps students see grain, crystal faces and cleavage.

As an earth science kit it suits geography and science practicals in secondary schools, college geology and environmental science courses, and teacher training. The acid bottle is supplied empty: fill it with dilute hydrochloric acid only under a teacher’s supervision, wear eye protection, rinse specimens after the acid test and store the knife safely between lessons.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Kit or set — the complete test kit, or the nine-mineral hardness set on its own.
  • Quantity — at least 10 kits; many schools plan one kit per lab group.
  • Extras — additional streak plates or hand lenses for larger classes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which tests can be done with this kit?
Four: the hardness (scratch) test against the Mohs scale, the streak test, the magnetism test and the acid reaction test. The instruction manual explains how to carry them out.

Which minerals are included?
Ten. Talc, gypsum, calcite, fluorite, apatite, orthoclase, quartz, topaz and corundum make up the hardness scale from 1 to 9, and magnetite is included for the magnetism test.

Why does the hardness scale stop at corundum?
The kit’s scale minerals run from talc (1) to corundum (9). Diamond, which is 10 on the Mohs scale, is not part of the kit.

Is acid supplied for the acid reaction test?
No. The acid drop bottle comes empty, so the school fills it with dilute acid locally and keeps it under teacher control.

How is it different from the Collection of 9 Mohs Hardness Set?
The nine-mineral set contains the hardness scale minerals only. This kit adds magnetite, the streak plate, magnet, hand lens, reference plates, knife, acid bottle and an instruction manual.

Who manufactures the kit?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) assembles it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a geology and school science equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and located on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The test kit is assembled at JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers order it straight from the manufacturer; every kit is visually inspected before dispatch, and spare items and repeat orders are handled by the same team. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Afghanistan in South Asia, Malaysia in Southeast Asia, Denmark in Northern Europe, Kenya in East Africa and Ireland in Western Europe. Details for tender buyers are on the JLab lab tenders page.
